Entry 30- Final product in art situation
An image of my product in a relaistic work location and showing that it is being used to full capability
Entry 29- Final Prototype annotation
Entry 28- solution to production of shelf
Due to material and equipment limitation of the saws, wood and workshop space available, the final product could not be made in wood as suggested initially. However having addressed this problem, the solution offered to use instead of this option is to create a pamflet/advertisement of the prototype and its fitness for purpose. Taking photographs of the model being used in various environments, I can promote the friendly usability, and usefulness of this desk tidy.
(Following the ideas presented in the mind map in entry 24)
I will then show evidence of the poster or advertisement being used commercially as well as the model, because the poster will be of a higher standard than the prototype.
Entry 27- Evidence of testing

This is the initial prototype that I created simply out of firm cardboard, and I created it as a rough prototype first to see its flaws and improve is according to my objective/success criteria and specification discussed with my client at the beginning of the project. The following photos for evidence are just a base of the product without any colour to see if the shape and size works realistically.
To the right is a photo of the test model with an open top and no items to test shape and physical appearance. I have asked my client if she would like the open top to be a permanent feature although she disagreed.
The model to the left can serve for a 'primary in house testing' as there are objectives stated above that have not been met. However there is some success in the compartmentalization, as we can see that according to my initial criteria, it stores papers and books in the long sections, and other stationary in the smaller box.
Entry 26- research for inspiration part 2

Similarly in means of creativity, this desk tidy is smartly designed even though the shape is simple. In form of recycling bins, it secretly raises a social and environmental issue perhaps promoting the importance of recycling. This product can make an impact on its buyers, as the daily action of putting items in the desk tidy's can turn into realistically putting items into life size ones.

Entry 25- Research for inspiration
I thought that it would be useful as the designer of the product to research on other sources for inspiration to develop the product before showing my client the initial prototype.
I have found many secondary source photographs of creatively designed desk tidies, these are some that I found interesting and will later on be able to compare to my own final product.
Copyright of binbin.net- I found this desk tidy extremely creative and innovative but at the same time has a fitness for purpose and successfully hold pens/pencils/rulers. Although this desk tidy does not have as many or a variety of compartments it is still very eye catching.

Entry 24- Ideas for use of a desk tidy
I have created a mind map to brainstorm ideas for the client. Although my client is specifically going to use this product in a work space as she is part of a real estate company I have listed many ways that she is able to use it for variation. I find this form of mind mapping effective as it is not only aesthetically pleasing but clear to read and see differences .
Below have scanned a copy of the original hard copy:

Entry 23- Communication with client
This post exemplifies the creative decisions that I had to make in order to enhance the prototype of the product, however first I was to contact my client to verify if the changes were okay.
Below are screenshots of emails being sent to and from the client for evidence of communication:
Entry 22- Changing the client
During the middle of my research I had to change clients for the reasons said in this video. Although this change was done in May 2010 I have put it in for evidence of project alterations
Entry 21- organisation questionaire
I also created another questionnaire to find out in general what people think of organising desks, and how useful it is according to different age groups. This is so that I could attain a wider audience review, and to improve the design of the product next time around.

Entry 20- simple client response
I created a short questionnaire/response to get feedback from my client about what they thought of the product.
1. How satisfied are you with the colour scheme of the product?
I am very satisfied. I like the colours you have chosen as they go together well and the shade and tone is interesting.
2. Do you think there should be added compartments. If so specify which ones.
Yes. I think it would be useful to have a small slit compartment for my ipod, so I could have an easy and organised access.
3. Does the design look proffesional in your opinon?
Yes it looks proffesional and appealing to be made as a well for any ages

Entry 19 - Process
I will show the step by step process of how I created the small shelf using google sketchup. I will just be describing the simple tools and functions I used to show a range of skills.

Entry 17- shelf 1 design using google sketchup

Above is client 1's desk design through using the software of Google sketchup.
I found this software easy to access, and it was user friendly. I was able to use all tools, including rectangle, circle, push/pull, bucket, and selection to its full use. overall I thought this software was not only efficient to use, but produced proffessional outcomes. However, this design was specifically meant for Veronica Morlotti, though as I had to change clients a few minor alterations were made to the final product. Only being that there are no patterns to be added on top and it is just to be left the way it is.

Entry 16- Materials needed for graffiti design
I have decided to use this design as my final product and to carry out this practically, having finished, painted and polished by the end of the project. The reason i have chosen this particular design is that i feel it will be both a challenge for me to make, however also look appealing (fitting the target audience perfectly).
For this shelf i will need:
-Spray paints of different colour
- 2cm thick wood
- Nails
-Sanding machine for refinement
-Small hooks
Before starting the project I will need to do more background research and practice drawing in the graffiti style.

Entry 14- Design stage ( product one )
Examples of design look something along the lines of this:

This client's specifications may be slightly more detailed and challenging to draw, however I propose to go through with the same process.
results for the second product include
- a black painted background
- compartment styles: small plate with holes for earrings, file slits, bended wire and clips for picture, and hook for bracelets e.t.c.
- graffiti design spray painted with templates on the black wood.

Entry 13- First rough design (hand drawn)
This is a rough sketch of specification [client 2] Veronica Morlotti's product design:
Specification:
• Theme = Summer
• Wood painted blue
• Long slits main compartment style
• White cover ( material)

According to this criteria, I will do my best to create a graphical design so that the proposal to the client is more proffessional. The fact that i have experience in using designing software such as corel draw and google sketchup in Art and Design Technology lessons will help with this.

Entry 12- beginning the design stages
I will start to design the final product now beginning with the base structure and style/ number of compartments through corel draw or google sketchup as an alternative.
For my first client who's theme was summer I have decided to keep with her
specification of a blue base and white cover although through creative skills have some painted design of patterns e.g sun,ice-cream,sandcastles on the white cover.

Entry 11- Analysis of questionnaire
I have now received results from the surveymonkey interview and know what each of my clients wants and preferrs for their desk tidy. I can now take these analysed results and start desgining the product for each client, beginning with the base structure and styling of compartments using corel draw or google sketchup.

After obtaining the results, I have decided to choose client 1 (Veronica Morlotti's) design to 'practically' take forward as it is simpler, and I feel more realistic to produce a design and prototype for. Considering this I will still create a graphical design for the other product to show a range of skills as it is more complex.
