Entry 17- shelf 1 design using google sketchup

Above is client 1's desk design through using the software of Google sketchup.
I found this software easy to access, and it was user friendly. I was able to use all tools, including rectangle, circle, push/pull, bucket, and selection to its full use. overall I thought this software was not only efficient to use, but produced proffessional outcomes. However, this design was specifically meant for Veronica Morlotti, though as I had to change clients a few minor alterations were made to the final product. Only being that there are no patterns to be added on top and it is just to be left the way it is.

Entry 16- Materials needed for graffiti design

I have decided to use this design as my final product and to carry out this practically, having finished, painted and polished by the end of the project. The reason i have chosen this particular design is that i feel it will be both a challenge for me to make, however also look appealing (fitting the target audience perfectly).
For this shelf i will need:
-Spray paints of different colour
- 2cm thick wood
- Nails
-Sanding machine for refinement
-Small hooks

Before starting the project I will need to do more background research and practice drawing in the graffiti style.

Entry 15- rough sketch for graffiti design

The design above follow the specifications of client 1 Zaha Refaaq, ideas given by her themselves. In the next blog I will show evidence of the interview confirming the client is okay with the design and is satisfied.

Entry 14- Design stage ( product one )

Examples of design look something along the lines of this:

This client's specifications may be slightly more detailed and challenging to draw, however I propose to go through with the same process.
results for the second product include

- a black painted background
- compartment styles: small plate with holes for earrings, file slits, bended wire and clips for picture, and hook for bracelets e.t.c.
- graffiti design spray painted with templates on the black wood.

Entry 13- First rough design (hand drawn)

This is a rough sketch of specification [client 2] Veronica Morlotti's product design:
Specification:
• Theme = Summer
• Wood painted blue
• Long slits main compartment style
• White cover ( material)

According to this criteria, I will do my best to create a graphical design so that the proposal to the client is more proffessional. The fact that i have experience in using designing software such as corel draw and google sketchup in Art and Design Technology lessons will help with this.

Entry 12- beginning the design stages

I will start to design the final product now beginning with the base structure and style/ number of compartments through corel draw or google sketchup as an alternative.
For my first client who's theme was summer I have decided to keep with her specification of a blue base and white cover although through creative skills have some painted design of patterns e.g sun,ice-cream,sandcastles on the white cover.

Entry 11- Analysis of questionnaire

I have now received results from the surveymonkey interview and know what each of my clients wants and preferrs for their desk tidy. I can now take these analysed results and start desgining the product for each client, beginning with the base structure and styling of compartments using corel draw or google sketchup.

This is a screen video using the Jing software of the process of receiving results:
jingvid

After obtaining the results, I have decided to choose client 1 (Veronica Morlotti's) design to 'practically' take forward as it is simpler, and I feel more realistic to produce a design and prototype for. Considering this I will still create a graphical design for the other product to show a range of skills as it is more complex.

Entry 10- Software evidence

For one of my forms of ICT, I have created a survey to collect responses and data from clients I intend to sell to. This is a simply made survey made using the software website of www.surveymonkey.com

Here is the link to the questionnaire below:

I find this website very useful as there is an automatic system in which i can just sign in and i receive feedback from people that have taken the questionnaire.

Entry 9- Material Research

There are a variety of materials considered "environmentally-friendly" for a variety of reasons. First and foremost, the renewability of the product. I intend to explore the advantages of some of the fabrics to add into my own product.

HEMP
Hemp plants grow very quickly and densely which makes it difficult for weeds to take hold, eliminating the need for herbicides and artificial fertilizers. It requires no irrigation as it thrives on the amount of water in the average rainfall, and it is highly pest-resistant.Those fibres are also long-lasting, in fact, historically hemp has been used for making naval ropes that were used in and around water because they resist rot.

ORGANIC COTTON

Organic cotton is much more environmentally friendly than the traditional variety as it uses no pesticides, herbicides, or insecticides during the growing cycle.Usually manufacturers using this plant to make textiles follow up the process by using natural dyes to further reduce the amount of chemicals dumped into our ecosystem.

SOY SILK

Soy Silk is made from the products of the tofu making process, liquefied proteins are then taken out from this and are converted into fibres. These fibres are easily spun and then weaved or knitted.

FORTREL EcoSpun™
A polyester fibre made out of recycled plastic bottles which can be made into fleece.

BAMBOO
Bamboo is a commonly found renewable type of grass, as well has having antibacterial properties and the fabric "breathes". All these materials listed are classified as being eco-friendly and appeal to customers who are looking for extra reasons when buying.

Entry 8- Software used

software that I will be using includes surveymonkey.com to create the option surveys for clients which is suitable as I have used it before and find it easy to manage and receive feedback. As well as CorelDraw/ Google Sketchup to design the shape for the desk tidy's.
I will also need to use computers for most of the time, for research, survey, and email. Sites such as google are suitable for research purposes because there are various/suitable sites that have research I can get information off.

Entry 7- Discussing in detail specific hardware required for the solution

Hardware used for this project will be the light wood used for making the mini-desk shelf, paints, initial drawn designs of each product, materials for cover of shelf. (useful to research environmentally friendly materials) extra appeal to client.
As well as materials for decorative purpose, done at the end. I will also be using a camera to take pictures of the product as advertisement purpose.

Minimally, I will need to explore suitable decorations and colours to used for the design and 'look' of the product. However my main focus will be on the construction and easily used woods to create the product, as this will be the most time consuming process. For advertising another hardware source needed will be simple digital camera to have hard records and proof of product.
These justify my solutions as the design and practical are the things done after using ICT softwares such as "corel draw". In the next entry I will be going into further details of the softwares used,

Entry 6- ALTERNATIVE plan

Unfortunately problems such as codes and details not being able to be filled in to use a gantt chart occurred, therefore my next solution described in the earlier post was to use an alternate software called gantt chart. Here is my finished time plan:

I have set myself deadlines and goals for many areas and methods of my project. By doing so I hope to utilize my time more effectively, and ensure that my project is completed well before the final submission date so that I can then review and evaluate my work, as well as to recognize improvements.

Designing the product

I will be using a programme that I have used before called COREL DRAW12 which is an extremely user friendly software. They have various useful tools to create many shapes and designs which can directly be sent to the cutting machine. This is a suitable way for me to design my small shelves as they will be in geometric shapes and not many complicated compartments making the cutting part trouble-free. :)
The main processing involved in order to complete my project is the design, and the prototype of the final outcome. This solution will help be in ticking off one of these main processes. My solution is useful as it can be both viewed and used by a wide range in age of audience, plus changes can be made easily once the design is reopened.

Entry 5.part 2- ICT solution

Another form of ICT I will be using is to create a survey for the clients to answer, and this will help me to see what they are specifically looking for in their products. The is an efficient and appealing website to use creating quick questionnaires or surveys. Preview above:

JUSTIFICATION: this is a suitable ICT solution in comparison to others. It is a much faster way to create surveys which saves time for me to complete the project, as well as it gives a more professional appeal to my customers in social manner.

Entry 5- ICT solutions

Throughout the project I will be using at least 2 if not more types of ICT to back up or further explain the motives and process of my product making.

~1 using a pert chart [PERT stands for Program Evaluation Review Technique] I will plan the order of events in which I will follow to best potential. This includes the time it is estimated to take as well as to keep a tab on how much is done throughout that estimated time. A rough template of the software used can be seen above.
(If at any time needed for alternative source try use 'gantt chart')

JUSTIFICATION: I think this is an appropriate way to record my progress as it is easier to keep a track of all of the set work once in an organised chart form. Considereing other non-ict solutions this is efficient as it makes it visually easier to read with links to which task to do next. As well as it being straightforward to update on a regular basis, compared to non-ICT solutions like timeplans done by hand which are also more likely to be lost without any backup.

Entry 4- Specific and Suitable clients

For my project, I feel it would be better to enable my clients who receive these products each to have their own specialized to their likings. This shows variety and range in my final products, as well as this will help me to create more interesting advertisements for the project.
Regarding to this, i have now made the decision that I will be making 5 of these desk studies. One for approximately each age group. e.g babies, children, teenage, adult, office.

My Clients are as so:

Raffaella Morlotti- suitable for any female design
Meeta Nayar- suitable for adult designed.
Zaha Refaaq- teenage design
Looking for client- suitable for office design
Looking for client- child, cute, colourful designed

To get a range of clients is important in this case, because they can all use them to full ability. Two of them being students, and one working at a real estate office, clearly could do with a product making it easier to organise their work environments.
I will now take their contacts e.g (email, contact number) and create a short survey using www.surveymonkey.com for their preferred colour, theme, and compartment choices.
